(Let’s face it, this will probably be the first of many, so we’ll subtitle this Confession #1…)
I have a confession to make: I love puns. Whew! There. I said it. I feel so much better! Just kidding, I didn’t feel bad about it. I love puns. I laugh out loud at bad dad jokes. I’m not one bit sorry about it. THEY ARE FUNNY!
Today one of my coworkers told me a fantastic one and I shamelessly, boldly, laughed out loud. I probably snorted. He was telling a story about being at a party playing Never Have I Ever, and someone said “Never have I ever done “it” in an elevator”, to which he replied “Wow, that’s wrong on so many levels”. I busted out laughing. That’s excellent!
My favorite humor is the kind that is unexpected and clever. Puns are sneaky, that’s why I love them. Plus you usually have to have your wits about you to get them (the good ones, anyway). My husband agrees, and goes out of his way to think of stuff that he knows will make me laugh. I swear he saves them up to casually toss out at appropriate, sometimes inappropriate, times. (Ladies, a man that looks for ways to make you laugh is a KEEPER.)
I love a good visual too, I LOVED The Far Side! Gary Larson is a genius at the visual pun. One of my favorites (below, credits to Mr. Larson) was in my desk calendar about a decade ago. I laughed so hard at that one, when the month was over I cut it out and put it on my bulletin board. I still have it! A pun involving eyeballs?! Priceless! It was definitely a bummer when he retired, but last year his website alluded to a “future, online version” of the comic, so let’s hope that becomes a thing.
I love to laugh, and I love to make other people laugh. When I post something on Facebook and get a bunch of the laughy faces, it makes my day. That means I made someone smile or laugh, or at least amused them, it’s so great! Life is hard and weird and sad and depressing enough, so if you can get a laugh out of it once in a while, I say take full advantage of that. I adore the show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I’d like to think I could take my act on the road, but that’s probably not going to happen. 1950’s divorcee is a pretty specific niche! Luckily we have the interwebs and you can just read my weird jokes! I frequently tag my cousin on Facebook in a bad pun, and she does the same to me. She said our weirdness is hereditary. This is hilarious because she’s adopted, but I guess that’s more of an inside joke.
Lots of people don’t appreciate my humor, and that’s ok. You don’t have to think I’m funny. I just hope you find something to laugh about every day. I’ll certainly be over here cracking myself up.

My husband loves to make any type of joke, but puns are definitely a favorite! The kids tease him about his dad jokes, but we all love them! And I adore Mrs. Maisel!!
