Painted out the kitchen built-in!
There are some fairly exciting things (I hope, keep your fingers crossed!) happening around here. We had a plumbing issue last week (not exciting) that we thought was going to require the half bath floor to be jack-hammered up (exciting but in the wrong way) but it turned out to be something that will need to be fixed eventually but not right this minute (much more exciting!). On Friday, we had a designer here to start talking about a kitchen reno (very exciting!). She’s working on a rendering and we’ll meet again in a couple of weeks (terrifying, cha-ching $), so stay tuned! This whole blog might turn into an “oh my god we’re tearing apart the kitchen what have we done” page, but let’s hope not.
So, mini-confession: I can’t sit still. There is a never-ending list of things I want to do, work on, fix, etc. around here. And luckily I’m pretty handy! Anyway, I’ve slowly been working on the rest of the kitchen, pretty much corner by corner. Yesterday I decided I was going to paint out our built-in. It had been the same gray-green that the current cabinets are, and I’ve planned for a while to paint it out to match the trim. Talk about a HUGE difference! It’s so light and bright now in that corner! I should have done it when we moved in, but I was too busy cleaning and moving things and trying not to die to paint it at the time. (I wasn’t sick, that move just almost killed me. Never. Again.)
I cleared off the shelves; if you’ve been in our house you know we have thousands of books (I counted once) and the cookbooks are multiplying! I actually even pulled out a stack to sell or donate to make more room. It’s a vicious little circle. I cleaned and then primed the whole thing with some primer I had leftover from a previous project. When we moved in, they had left a can of the trim paint. I’ve touched up and used it over the last three years, and when I put in the pantry door the summer before last, I took the almost empty can to Lowe’s and had them mix up some more. I highly recommend keeping your extra paint around! I added a layer of polyurethane so the books don’t scratch up the paint, and there you have it! A very nice little weekend project that didn’t even take me a full day total to do, and I’m loving it!

With just a little paint, you turn that into a beautiful nook cabinet. Love it!
