Poulet a la Creme, Rice Soubise, and the Worlds Best Brownies!
Well. I have been landscaping our front yard. I am ALMOST finished, and I’ll write a post about my spring projects when I’m there. Today I was in the zone, and out there sweating my hiney off. I had decided that I was going to let Jarrod handle dinner this evening, and he’s been wanting to make this chicken dish, so I told him to have at it while I was out there doing my fake HGTV show.
He did NOT disappoint. He mostly bakes, I mostly cook. I think I’m going to make him cook more often! This chicken dish was EXCELLENT. Oh wow, that sauce. I mean, you can’t really go wrong when Jacques tells you to make a cream sauce, but holy cow. I ate a second helping of the rice just so I could soak up more sauce with it. And, full disclosure: I licked my plate. Held it up to my face like a five year old and licked it. I’m not the least bit sorry, either.
Not only did he make one dish, he made two! The rice was great! Onion, scallions, and mushrooms sauteed in butter then add in some sushi rice, chicken stock, cook it down, and give it a whir with the stick blender. Delicious! And there are leftovers that I’m seriously considering having for breakfast tomorrow. Don’t judge.
Next, let’s talk about these brownies. Jarrod baked them yesterday, and I swear David Lebovitz will never steer you wrong with a dessert. After you have these babies you will never go buy a box of brownie mix ever again, I promise you. They are gooey and nutty and just the right amount of chewy on the edges, and I call dibs on the corners! YUM!! So, I’ve had a much needed shower, I have what’s left of my glass of wine, and I have the best husband ever. (He even came out and stood on the landscape edging so my corners didn’t pop up when I hammered it in. And lest you think he’s lazy, he hates yard work, I love doing it, and I would probably yell at him and tell him he’s doing it wrong, so we both own it).
Last but not least, I know that it’s not officially summer yet, but Memorial Day weekend marks the “unofficial” start of summer, so I have decided that this was the final week of Sunday Supper Spring. Next week, my very favorite: ITALIAN SUMMER!!!! I am SO excited! Italian is my very favorite thing to cook, we have a new pizza stone for the grill to try out, I’m going to make homemade pasta again, and a bunch of yummy veggies are growing out in the garden beds right now that are going to be PERFECT. I can’t wait, so stay tuned!
Cheers! ~ Jen
